Homecoming Soldier

A few pictures of our final moments with Grandpa!! Moments I will treasure forever!!

So thankful we can KNOW Grandpa got to go to a better place than here!! He is now a young man with no pain. No bitterness or anger. Jesus wiped the final tears from his face.

I was blessed to have him for a grandfather and mentor in my life! In his will he asked that mom write a poem for his funeral. I wanted to share that here. It sums up the final days we shared with him!

Count it not defeat
Oh death, where is your sting?
There's nothing you can take
But mortal suffering

We've talked of life eternal
And longing for that day
Now the ultimate victory
Is one small step away

The greatest Revelation
That matchless gift of grace
Now perfect understanding
With one look upon His face

The reward for all your labors
The victory so sweet
How gladly will you take your crown
And place it at His feet

Our hearts ached as we watched you
Stepping through those gates
But no earthly thing could hold you
For eternity awaits

Thank you for the memories
And all the years we've had
Our teacher and our mentor
Our Grandpa and our Dad

  1. Such very special moments Charity. Your mom's poem is beautiful, it could be turned into a sermon or song. It just rang so true in my heart. Grandparents are so special, and never ever forgotten! Love you my friend *hugs*
