Pots and plants

I love the thought of having a big garden out back; with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and herbs adorning our table all summer long!! But the truth is i know very little about gardening!! So rather than try big and fail big, I decided to try a small potted garden this year and see how it goes.

For my birthday, my in-laws got me my tools, gloves, a watering can, rakes, soil, an herb-growing kit  AND money for my pots and seeds!!! (feeling very blessed and humbled!!)

I planted the herbs that week and placed them on my window sill. Two days later, the first one sprouted!! I was ecstatic! i had no idea they would sprout that quickly. Within a week, all of my herbs had little green sprouts in the pots. This definitely motivated me :)

We were having unusually warm weather in March, so i was able to plant a couple others as well - beans, peas, cucumbers, eggplant, and peppers... some have to start indoors, then move outdoors when they have sprouts, but others are in their pots outside. if it is supposed to get cold, i either bring the pot inside or cover it. (my peas/beans pot also has sprouts already.)

I have had so much fun already with this gardenig experience!! And the thought of fresh, home-grown vegetables and herbs this summer keeps me motivated to take care of them. i will post an updated picture of my herbs soon. A couple of them are outgrowing their pot already!! :) The plants in the square pot are thyme and rosemary. i bought them as plants, which is why they are already so big. We used them for the first time the other day on chicken!! My goodness, nothing compares to the taste of fresh herbs in food!! So flavorful!!

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth;
but God that giveth the increase.  I Corinthians 3:7
